With Aqua Map, you can participate in the Crowdsourced Bathymetry Initiative, promoted by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), aimed at improving the accuracy and timeliness of nautical chart updates.
By enabling this functionality, Aqua Map will record your vessel's location and depth information from your depth sounder, transmitting them to the IHO server via NOAA.
Recordings can only be made if the application receives depth information from a depth sounder (connected to Aqua Map using a Wi-Fi Connection). To avoid using the mobile data band, the accumulated data will then be transmitted only when the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Crowdsourced Bathymetry settings
From the Settings page, you can open the Crowdsourced Bathymetry settings, where you can decide to participate in this important project.
All the data recorded and transmitted will be shared under the "Creative Commons: CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication" license.
You can choose to share the data anonymously (without sharing any identifying information about the boat, such as MMSI or boat name) by enabling the "Send data anonymously" switch.
