This page allows you to search through most of the geographic data in the app. You can search for your nearest marker, a marina with a specific name, or your preferred route, among other options. Various filters are available to help you refine your search.
To access the search function, simply tap the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
The page allows you to search two different sets of data:
- User data: This includes all the objects (markers, tracks, routes) you have created or imported.
- Places and POIs: This includes a selected number of categories of geographic places and points of interest.
User data search
When you first tap on the Search icon, it takes you to the search page where you will find a search box, and a set of two additional tab menus that let you switch between user data and places and POIs. For this section we will focus on ‘User data’.
- Search by name: you can enter in the Search box a string to list only the objects that contain (not just begin with) the search string in the name or in the description field.
NOTE: the Search box is not reset when changing the "User data" and "Places and POIs" switch. - Change the set of data to be used for the search among "User data" and "Places and POIs".
- Select the user data type filter: "All" to see all your user data or one of the specific type (Markers, Tracks or Routes) to see only that objects type.
- Edit the list: using thebutton you can enter in Edit mode (see below paragraph).
- Sort the list: using the button will show this switch , the list can be sorted by Distance (from the current map center position), by Name (alphabetically) or by Date (last time changed).
- "Download from your GEC Account": that will open the GEC Archive page (if you are already logged in) or the GEC Account login page. See the GEC Account page for more details.
Then, for each row in the list you can:
- Zoom the map on that object, tapping on the object name it will close the page and will center the map on the selected object.
- Open the object detail page, tapping on the corresponding button.
- Hide/show an object, tapping on the toggle on the right.
- Delete an object, swiping from right to left on a row will delete the corresponding object.
NOTE: this option is available only in the iOS version
Edit mode
If you select the editbutton, it will allow you to perform actions on multiple objects at the same time.
When the Edit mode is active you have some new editing options.
- Manual multiple selection: Tap on radio button left of each listed objects to select those you want to edit.
Then from the Bottom toolbar you can:
- Select/Unselect ALL: as the name says, allow to select/unselect all the objects shown in the list at once.
- Show/Hide: to show or hide the selected objects on the map
- Share: using the button you can share (see the Sharing page for more details) all the selected objects at once (a single share file will be created containing all the objects selected).
NOTE: this could be useful to archive many objects in your GEC Account at once. Please note that the GEC Account will keep this as a single file with multiple objects in it, so you will not be able to later re-import only a subset of them. - Delete: using the button you will delete all the selected objects at once.
To exit from the Edit mode just press again the button.
Places and POIs search
This page helps you search among different geographic categories, like Community POIs, place names, Tide & Current stations, Lakes, etc..
Within this page you can (from top to bottom):
- Search by name: you can enter in the Search box a string to list only the objects that contain (not just begin with) the search string in the name or in the description field.
NOTE: the Search box is not reset when changing the "User data" and "Places and POIs" switch nor closing the Search page. - Change the set of data to be used for the search among "User data" and "Places and POIs".
- Sort the list, using the button will show this switch , the list can be sorted by Distance (from the current map center position) or by Name (alphabetically).
- Search filters, pressing the button a new section (containing the list of available options) will be shown (tapping again will be hidden).
Using this section you will be able to enable/disable the categories you would use for your search.
NOTE: if an option is disabled (greyed) means that specific set of data is not available or not yet downloaded (not enabled into the setting page).
Then, for each row in the resultant list of objects you can:
- Center the map on an object just tapping on it.
- Open the object detail page: tapping on the corresponding button. If the button is not present it means there isn't any further detail.
