To open the main settings menu, you can tap on the button on the bottom right corner of the screen .
The settings menu is divided into sections.
Most of the features have a switch to quickly turn ON/OFF the corresponding data display or function and/or a "Settings" button (arrow pointing on the right) that opens a dedicated page with all the options available.
Help
At the top section of the settings menu, you will discover two help options. One directs you to the support section of our website, while the other allows you to access quick tutorials explaining the function of each element from within Aqua Map.
- Help: This opens up the support section of our website, providing guidance on the main functions of each feature and a dedicated FAQ section.
- Tutorials: These are quick in-app tutorials that run through the function of each element found inside the app.
Aqua Map charts store
From within the main settings menu, you can access our catalog of available charts. You can also view your existing purchases, as well as restore your previously purchased charts.
Simply, tap on the "Aqua Map charts store" to access our catalogue which is divided by continents and countries.
My boat
My boat allows you to set all your personal and boat information.
When you go into 'My Boat' settings you will open a dedicated page where you can set your boat's characteristics (type, average speed, draft, ...). Most of the information entered in this section will be used by other Aqua Map features such as Route Explorer to give you more personalized data and solutions.

Anchor Alarm
This section allows to activate and set up Anchor Alarm.
To setup all the Anchor Alarm parameters and the anchor position, see the dedicated settings page.
Overlays
This section allows you to select the data you want added on top of your map.
- Land data:Choose how to represent the land portion of the map (full road network, POIs, etc.). Options include: "Normal" (full display), "Faded" (semi-transparent), and "Hidden" (not displayed). This setting does not affect the visualization of nautical data. NOTE: Land data is not visible in areas where nautical charts are in Raster format.
- Online satellite images: Activate to overlay satellite images atop the map. A slider will appear on the map display (lower-right) to adjust the opacity of the satellite images.
- Paper charts overlay: Enable to display additional raster charts atop the map. A slider will appear on the map display (lower-right) to adjust the opacity of the Raster charts. NOTE: Additional raster charts are available only in certain areas (e.g., Bahamas, Canada, ...).
- Tides & Currents display: Enable to view Tide and Tidal current stations as icons on the map. NOTE: Tides & Currents data is currently available only for North America and Oceania.
- Fishing Charts: Enable and configure the display of purchased Fishing Charts. Fishing Charts provide supplementary information in specific areas.
Advanced tools
This section contains all the features that are included with the Advanced Tools subscriptions.
On the right side of the ADVANCED TOOLS row you can see the status of your Advanced Tools subscription. If it shows "Active," one of the Advanced tools subscriptions is currently active. Otherwise, if it displays "Purchase," it means your do not have any Advanced Tools subscription active. Tap on the "Purchase" button to access to the Store section relative to the Advanced Tools subscriptions. Tap on the "Active" button to check the status of your active subscription.
PRO FEATURES:
- Marine forecast: Enables and allows configuration of the overlay of Marine forecast data on the map. Currently, you can display Surface currents, Wind, Waves, Salinity and Surface Sea Temperature on the map.
- Weather stations display: Enables the overlay of icons representing marine weather stations (mainly weather buoys), providing an access to real-time weather conditions at their locations. Refer to the Marine forecast page for more details.
- Route Explorer: Enables the visualization of the Route Explorer window on the map while navigating a route. Disabling this switch will not deactivate the Route Explorer functionality; the information will still be available in the detail page for all your tracks and routes. To configure all the Route Explorer parameters, refer to the dedicated settings page.
- AIS: Enables the overlay of AIS targets on the map. To view AIS targets, you must receive the AIS data stream through a Wi-Fi connection (see item below). For configuring the AIS display and collision avoidance feature, refer to the dedicated settings page.
- Wi-Fi connections: Allows you to create and manage one or more wi-fi connections between Aqua Map and your vessel's devices transmitting NMEA or SignalK data via Wi-Fi. To set up a connection, refer to the dedicated settings page.
LOCAL DATA: this section is available only for customers using the app in the US or Canada area.
- USACE surveys: Enables the overlay of US Army Corps of Engineers hydrographic survey data on the map. To configure what to display and how, refer to the dedicated settings page.
- Coast guard data: Enables the overlay of US Coast Guard (Local Notice to Mariners and List of Lights) and Canada Coast Guard (NAVWARNs) data on the map.
Communities
This section houses your GEC Account and the Communities data available in Aqua Map.
- GEC Account: Our GEC Account serves as the official Aqua Map account, allowing you to archive your "User data" (Routes, Markers, Tracks), and share your Aqua Map purchases for free with up to 5 different devices (both iOS and Android). You can access the GEC Account directly from the app by tapping on the right arrow button, or from the Aqua Map website by logging in.
- Live Sharing: Enables interaction with the Aqua Map community, allowing you to overlay your friends' boats on the map. To manage Live Sharing settings, refer to the dedicated settings page.
- ActiveCaptain: Enables the overlay of data from the ActiveCaptain community on the map. To download ActiveCaptain data and configure its display, refer to the dedicated settings page.
- Waterway Guide: Enables the overlay of data from the Waterway Guide community on the map. To download Waterway Guide data and configure its display, refer to the dedicated settings page.
- Bob423 tracks from Public folder: Allows to automatically import and keep in synch all the Bob423 ICW tracks. You have only to enable this functionality and all future updates of the tracks will be automatically synched by the app, no further actions needed from the boater. If you would have more info on how this functionality works, see the Public folder page.
- Crowdsourced Bathymetry: Allows participation in the Crowdsourced Bathymetry Initiative organized by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). To enable this functionality, refer to the dedicated settings page.
Map customization
This section allows to setup the appearance and shading of the map.
- Menu Appearance: Allows selection between Light or Dark appearance for all menus, buttons, and windows. The "Auto" setting automatically adjusts based on the device's Light or Dark setting. Note: This feature is available only on iOS 13.0 and higher.
- Map Appearance: Choose between Day or Night map drawing style. The "Auto" setting adjusts based on the device's appearance (Light, Dark). Note: Night mode is recommended for low luminosity conditions; under direct sunlight or bright conditions, the contrast may be too low.
- Depth Colouring: Select the shading style for depth areas. "Standard" replicates traditional paper charts, with blue for shallow depths shading to white for depths deeper than 20m. "Natural" emulates natural sea colors, starting from white for shallow depths and shading to dark blue for depths deeper than 3500m. Note: This feature does not apply to Raster charts.
- Safety Depth: Enter your safety depth, defining the limit for shaded depth areas. Depths deeper than the Safety Depth are displayed as white (Standard) or dark blue (Natural). Shallower depths remain shaded as before. Note: This feature does apply to Raster charts.
- Perspective View: Select activation criteria for the perspective view (Bird's Eye view). Choose "Never" to disable, "Manual" to enable/disable with a two-finger swipe up/down gesture, or "Auto" to enable automatically in Heading up mode and disable in North up mode. Even with Auto, you can still manually toggle Perspective view.
- Map Visibility: Control the size of icons and text displayed on the map. Refer to the dedicated settings page for more details.
Measure units
This section allows to select the different measurement unit you want to use to display data on your charts and features.
- Distance unit: Select your preferred unit for distance measurement between Nautical Mile (NM), kilometer (km), and statute mile (mi). NM/m is a special setting for individuals accustomed to meters but prefer to use NM as the unit for "long distances."
- Depth/Elevation unit: Choose your preferred unit for depth or elevation measurement between foot (ft) and meter (m).
NOTE: In areas where the charts are in Raster format, this setting will not affect the map display. - Temperature unit: Indicate your preferred unit for temperature measurement between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) degrees.
- Fuel unit: Specify your preferred unit for fuel measurement between gallon (G) and liter (L).
- Coordinates format: Set your preferred format for coordinates between DMS.s (Degrees Minute Seconds and fraction of a second) and DM.m (Degrees Minutes and fraction of a minute).
- Degrees (T or M): Choose your preferred reference for direction between Magnetic and True. Selecting True means all angles referring to the North will be relative to True North (the position of the North Pole on Earth), while selecting Magnetic will correct angles considering the known deviations in the Earth's magnetic field using the updated WMM2020 model.
General
This section allows to manage the automatic updates of maps and data and relative storage in your device.
- Automatic updates: Choose how and when to automatically update your downloaded maps and additional data. Refer to the dedicated settings page for more details.
- Downloaded maps: Displays the amount of memory occupied by the downloaded maps (e.g., 353 MB) and enables you to remove all downloaded maps from the device by pressing the "RESET" button. Alternatively, you can delete individual map tiles from the Chart Download page.
- Allow iOS to delete maps in case of low available space: If you toggle this switch on, iOS may remove downloaded map tiles when the device has low memory space.
UI settings
This section allows to select the basic interactions with the user interface of the app.
- Sound Effects: Turn on sound effects for button presses and other interactions.
Note: Sound effects won't affect the Anchor Alarm sound. Only available on iOS. - UI Animation Effects: Enable animation effects when opening and closing windows.
Note: Only available on iOS. - Buttons Auto-Hide: Automatically hide map buttons if the screen isn't touched for more than 10 seconds.
Note: Simply touch the screen to make the buttons reappear. - Disable Auto-Lock: Prevent the device from locking automatically.
Note: Be aware of battery usage when this option is enabled, as the device won't enter screen lock mode.
Footer
For the footer you have the option to restore purchases or read through our terms and conditions, privacy policies, and disclaimer and acknowledgement.
- Restore purchases: allows to restore any purchase done in the app.
- Contact support: By tapping the "Contact Support" button, you can send an email directly to the Aqua Map support team at support@aquamap.app. This allows you to request assistance, report any bugs you encounter, or submit suggestions for future improvements.
- Disclaimer and Acknowledgement, Terms and conditions and Privacy Policy: These sections provide access to important information regarding the Aqua Map application.
